Akshay Kumar injured again! Akshay Kumar loves to flirt with danger. But his latest injury did not result from doing any stunt scene. The incident happened while Akshay was at working out at his personal gym set up in a bungalow on the outskirts of Mumbai where the actor is staying while shooting good friend and director-producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah ’s next film Action Replay . Akshay was following his daily routine of work-outs and was busy on bar doing pull-ups when suddenly the rod broke and the actor got hurt on his arm and back. It’s been reported that Akshay’s elbow was bleeding badly, and that made director Vipul Shah wary and tense. But Akshay, a thorough professional that he is, went to the shoot after getting first-aid. He was later rushed to Mumbai and resumed the shooting the day after. Sources add that he is fine and didn’t take any medicines – he abhors allopathic medication – while shooting. As everyone knows, Akshay loves to do daredevil stunts even though he’s had narrow escapes in the past. Last year, he was caught up in a terrible situation while shooting for action-thriller Blue in Bahamas. He had to perform a stunt scene under 75ft deep sea-water with 35 sharks. While doing the scene, Akshay’s head accidentally hit the metal of a shipwreck and blood started to ooze out. Before the sharks could smell blood and attack Akki, he rushed back to the surface. Even for his next release 8x10Tasveer, Akshay has done a Houdini act where he is tied up in chains and goes underwater. He even learned how to swim underwater without oxygen for this stunt.
Arjun Rampal gifts a sari to Nicole Kidman What better gift for an Australian blonde beauty than a traditional Indian sari. Just weeks after her compatriot Kylie Minogue came and shook her leg with Akshay Kumar for movie Blue , Aussie actress Nicole Kidman flew to Udaipur to shoot an advertisement with Bollywood star Arjun Rampal , who she did not know was a film star until she saw fans grappling for his autographs. Arjun and Nicole reportedly bonded quite well on the sets of the ad which was shot over a period of five days under the direction of Shekhar Kapur . Since it was a tight schedule, Nicole mostly kept herself busy with work and on the day the shooting wrapped up, Arjun had a special gift for the ‘Australia’ star. He gifted her a sari designed by Indian designer Tarun Tahiliani . Nicole was reportedly very touched by Arjun’s gift. A sari would doubtlessly be a good souvenir of the little time she spent in India. Even the ad Nicole shot had a very Indian milieu. 'Videsh' challenged me as an actor: Preity Zinta For a woman who’s not just feisty and independent but also knows to give back tit for tat, playing a battered housewife was no easy task. Preity Zinta got to explore a new dimension of her acting skills through Deepa Mehta’s film Videsh which releases in India on Friday. Though she had already begun straying away from usual bubbly kind of roles with films like Heroes and The Last Lear , Videsh marked a transformation of a unique kind for Preity. “After the typical NRI type or modern roles, I wanted to challenge myself and do something real. I never got an opportunity to play earthy roles but with 'Videsh' it is different as I feel that the film has a slice of life,” Zinta is quoted as saying. In fact, Preity, who has won the best actress award at the Chicago film festival for her power packed performance in this film, believes that she has never worked so hard for a film earlier. The movie has Preity playing a Punjabi girl named Chand who’s married to an NRI in Canada and becomes a victim of domestic violence within a few months of her wedding. However, director Deepa Mehta says the film is not just about domestic violence. “To say that the film is only about domestic abuse will be an injustice. It is about the power of women and the power of imagination,” reveals the acclaimed director. In the movie, the character of battered housewife uses her spirituality and imagination to overcome her personal trauma.
A R Rahman in Akon video! Formerly shy and introvert music composer A R Rahman is getting camera friendly of late. Until he won two Oscars for Slumdog Millionaire , Rahman hardly attracted any strobe lights of the western media. His Oscar sweep, coupled with his ‘electrifying’ performance during Oscars, made Rahman a popular name, and now the talented composer is featured in music video ‘Beautiful’ by ‘Smack That’ singer Akon. The video also features other foreign singers like Colby O'Donis and Canadian hip hop artist Kardinal Offishall. With his characteristic smile on face, Rahman appears only for a few seconds, posing with a number of models in the video. Akon is a popular name in India where only a few international hip-hop artists enjoy a loyal fan following. He became immensely famous with his hit ‘Locked Up’ and ‘Lonely’ in the year 2004. And later gave hit albums like ‘Konvicted’ and ‘Freedom’. Apart from Akon, Rahman recently also caught the fancy of Pussycat Dolls who did a sauced up version of Rahman’s Oscar winning ‘Jai Ho’.
Aishwarya Rai to show her singing talent It would be interesting to hear what kind of singing voice the spotless beauty Aishwarya Rai has! Yes, the Bollywood stunner is now set to wield the microphone and show her singing skills for a song composed by music director duo of Vishal and Shekhar. The duo has earlier made Abhishek Bachchan sing to their hip-hop tune “Right Here Right Now” in Bluffmaster . Vishal-Shekhar have also recorded a rap song with Amitabh Bachchan for the upcoming film Aladdin . However, the duo reveals that they had to do much cajoling to convincing Ash to sing. The doe-eyed actress will record the song soon, but the composer duo don’t know where they would use the song – in a movie or a private album. Without worrying about how the song will be used, Vishal-Shekhar wants to record it before Ash changes her mind. Meanwhile, Ash’s latest Hollywood film Pink Panther 2 releases in India today and, contrary to rumours, she doesn’t have a blink-and-you’ll-miss role in the movie.
