Last year, Priyanka’s career was on a downslide after her four films – Love Story 2050 , Drona , Chamku and God Tussi Great Ho – bombed one after the other at the box office. But the tide turned with Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion which wasn’t just a box-office success, but has also fetched Priyanka awards galore for her performance. She has so far bagged best actress awards at Film fare Awards, Star Screen Awards, Stardust Awards and Lions Club Awards, among others, for her acting in the film. “It's been a fantastic start to 2009. Awards mean a lot to me. After you work so hard, the award validates your work. So every award has a very special place in my heart and gives me a huge sense of achievement and encouragement,” Priyanka is quoted by IANS as saying. Speaking about her role in ‘Fashion’, Priyanka says she feels privileged to have played such a complex character. “I feel privileged to have been given the chance to essay a complex character like Meghna Mathur in 'Fashion' and I'm truly overwhelmed by the appreciation I have received,” she said. Not just at home, Priyanka is also winning abroad. Last month, she was conferred the Nielsen Box Office Award for outstanding contribution to Asian cinema at the Third Annual Asian Film Awards held in Hong Kong. “This is my first international award and is definitely an encouragement for me as an actor to perform better,” Priyanka is quoted as saying. Priyanka is presently looking forward to the release of director Vishal Bharadwaj’s film Kaminay in which she pairs with Shahid Kapur . Anil Kapoor to act in American TV show '24' Anil Kapoor is exploring distant shores after springing to international limelight with the huge success of Slumdog Millionaire . The actor is now gearing up for a different role in an American TV show 24. Kapoor, who won critical acclaim as a game show host in the multiple Oscar-winning film, will have a regular role as a Middle Eastern leader in the eighth season of the thriller, Variety magazine reported. The show will mark Kapoor's debut on American television. The actor has reportedly clinched the deal with ICM and is all set to star as a leader, who comes to the US for a peacekeeping mission. The deal has made Anil among the very few Indian stars to make an impact on the Western audiences. Only the likes of Irrfan Khan , Om Puri and Aishwarya Rai have been able to do that so far. Meanwhile, back home in Mumbai, Anil is busy with the production of a number of flicks, including a movie called ‘Ayesha’ inspired from Jane Austen’s Emma. Anil’s daughter Sonam Kapoor plays the female lead in the film. Amitabh cheers for Preity Zinta's IPL team Superstar Amitabh Bachchan went out of his way to cheer Preity Zinta’s team Kings XI Punjab ahead of the upcoming IPL tournament. Preity Zinta ’s IPL team is not in the best of spirits. Since it has quite a few Sri Lankan players, the team may be feeling a bit demoralized due to the recent terrorist attack on them. Add to it the disappointment of the tournament’s venue being shifted to South Africa. However, Preity knows how to boost the team’s morale. “Preity had called last evening for a request - her IPL team was hugely depressed and she was wondering if I could do a small TV bite to cheer them up. I did that and I hope it makes them happy,” Amitabh posted on his blog www.bigb.bigadda.com. Mr. Bachchan is very fond of Preity and she, too, shares an excellent rapport with the Bachchans. Not only has she acted with Big B in films like The Last Lear , Veer Zaara and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna , she went out of her way to be part of the Bachchan troupe when they went on a world tour last year. Big B added on his blog that cricket has occupied a greater place in people’s lives ever since the Twenty20 craze began.“Cricket has become so big and important. And the T20 series, now shifted to South Africa due to security concerns and concerns of its reflection on the elections, is a sheer delight,” Mr. Bachchan wrote on his blog. The second season of the IPL begins on April 18 in South Africa. |
