Jashnn – Movie Review
Nothing much celebratory in this film about an aspiring singer caught in a tangle of relationships After ripping off Hollywood hits in their previous two movies (‘The Train’ and ‘The Killer’), a presumably reformed director duo Raksha and Hasnain come up with something that’s original but not breathtaking. ‘Jashnn’ is a film dotted with a few touching moments and a charged-up climax. Mind you, it’s not about a rock band like ‘Rock On’ was. Save for the protagonist ( Adhyayan Suman ), who’s the singer and guitarist of the band, the remaining members are reduced to hired props that remain in the shadows. The story focuses more on the complex cobweb of relations between the hero, his sister, his lover, and his detractor. Akash (Adhyayan) strums his acoustic guitar in nightclubs and empty stadiums with the hope of becoming a big star someday. But when you hear him sing and strum, you understand why the stadium is empty. He’s yet to find a voice that comes from his deepest core. And most of all, he and his band has yet to find a lucky break. An orphan, Akash is dependent on his elder sister Nisha (Shahana Goswami), who makes ends meet by being the mistress of a rich businessman Aman (Humayun Saeed). Now, by a chance coincidence, Akash falls in love with Sara (Anjana Sukhani) who turns out to be (no pats for guessing) the doted sister of Aman. As Akash realizes the sacrifices his sister has made to let him have the luxury of realizing his dream, he transforms into a mature man who both loves and loathes his sister for having made those choices. And even as Aman, who doesn’t approve of Akash’s relationship with his sister Sara, puts many a hurdle in his way, Akash, with love and support from the two women in his life, makes his dream a reality.
Fox bags rights for My Name Is Khan in Rs 100 crore deal
So what is the upcoming blockbuster My Name is Khan starring Shahrukh and Kajol worth even before it’s release? Well the answer is rather a lot, Rs 100 crore to be exact as that is the record breaking amount that Fox Star Studios have reportedly paid to buy the marketing and distribution rights for the next Karan Johar epic. This makes it the biggest distribution deal in Bollywood pushing Aamir Khan’s Ghajini into second place with Rs 90 crore. Third place is also held by King Khan himself with the Eros International release Om Shanti Om selling it’s global rights for Rs 75 crore back in 2007. So is the difference inflation or is the Shahrukh - Kajol jodi more valuable? Shahrukh and Kajol playing opposite each other has always resulted in screen magic and cinema goers are anxious to see the two fall in love all over again even if it is only on the silver screen. The coupling has definitely been missed. The film, co-produced by Johar and Khan, has a Rs 55 crore budget and is set against the 9/11 terror attacks and its impact on an Indian Muslim living in the US. Business Standard asked Vivek Krishnani, head of distribution, Marketing and Syndication at Fox Star Studio about the deal. He said: “We have been in talks with Karan Johar for movie rights. That is the stated position. I do not know if any deal has been struck on this matter nor do I know if something has been worked out in Los Angeles.Khan
Making Aishwarya look old
It’s not easy to make one of the most beautiful women in the world look old By ApunKaChoice Mon, Jul 27, 2009 05:10:24 GMT Contrary to rumours Aishwarya Rai has been an image of patience on the sets of Vipul Shah’s film Action Replay. Certain portions of the film require Ash to look old and there have been rumours that the actress refused to get her make-up done by any other person except her regular make-up man. But the truth is far from it, claimed director Vipul Shah. “Ash did her old age make up with Paul, a Hollywood make-up artist. When we did it the first time, it didn't work out well. When you are doing age make-up, you can't correct it so it had to be removed fully and done again,” Shah is quoted to have said. Far from throwing a tantrum, Shah said Ash sat through the second make-up session as well and it eventually took six hours to get her look right. After the long make-up sitting, the shooting began at 3 am and went on for four hours. A pack-up was called at 7 am. The movie, starring Akshay Kumar in male lead, is a unique love story that progresses backwards in time. Shah has also rubbished the rumours that the film is inspired from the Oscar-nominated ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’.
