Kidney buys sisters freedom

Two sisters are celebrating their release from prison after 16 years - after one agreed to donate one of her kidneys to the other.
Jamie and Gladys Scott were in a Mississippi jail after they were convicted in 1994 of taking part in a robbery that netted just £7, reports the BBC.
Jamie Scott requires daily dialysis, which costs the state about £130,000 per year, officials said.
Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour agreed to release the sisters, who were serving life sentences, on condition that Gladys donates a kidney to her sister within one year.
Gladys, 36, who came up with the idea for the transplant, volunteered to donate her kidney to 38-year-old Jamie in her petition for early release.
Hundreds of protesters marched through the Mississippi capital of Jackson in September, calling for the women's release from prison - criticising their sentences as harsh.
At a press conference, the sisters said that although they were not bitter about having been imprisoned, they were still seeking a pardon from the state of Mississippi.
"The fight is not over. We have to now fight for this pardon," Jamie said.
The two walked out of the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility in the town of Pearl and were greeted by their mother and grown children.
The women's lawyer, Chokwe Lumumba, said the two hoped to apply for government-funded health insurance, begin planning for the transplant and start seeking a pardon from the governor.

Airport security confiscate 10lb turkey

Security staff at Cardiff Airport were stunned to find a 10lb turkey hidden in a passenger's hand luggage.
The man was travelling to Spain and was astonished to have the main ingredient of his Christmas dinner confiscated. "Why are you making a fuss? Will it thaw at 30,000ft?" he complained.
The passenger was told it was illegal to bring perishable foodstuffs on board without permission.
The man claimed it was impossible to buy a good turkey in Spain, reports The Sun.
An airport official said: "Finding a turkey in hand luggage is one of the strangest things we've ever come across."

Vulture arrested for spying

Saudi Arabian security services have captured a vulture suspected of being a Mossad spy sent over by Israel.
The bird, which was carrying a GPS transmitter and a tag from Tel Aviv University, strayed into Saudi Arabian territory, according to a report in the Israeli daily Ma'ariv.
Residents and reporters told Saudi Arabia's Al-Weeam newspaper the matter seemed to be linked to a "Zionist plot" and swiftly alerted security services. The bird has since been placed under arrest.
The accusations went viral with hundreds of posts on Arabic-language websites and forums claiming "Zionists" had trained the birds for espionage.
Israeli authorities said the bird's activities were innocent and that it was part of a long-term study of the migratory habits of the vulture.
The incident comes amid growing paranoia among Israel's neighbours over the nation's growing military might.
An Egyptian official reportedly claimed a shark that attacked tourists off the coastal resort of Sharm el Sheikh was acting on behalf of the Israeli spy service.
