•    Boy, 12, wears skirt to school

A brave 12-year-old boy wore a skirt to school in protest against 'discriminatory' rules which ban boys from wearing shorts.
Chris Whitehead wore a girls' knee-length skirt to classes at Impington Village College, near Cambridge.
He is protesting against a school uniform policy which bans boys from wearing shorts during the summer months.
He also addressed 1,368 pupils at morning assembly wearing the black skirt, which boys are permitted to wear due to a loophole in the policy.
Chris believes that forcing boys to wear long trousers during the sizzling summer months affects concentration and their ability to learn.
He said: "in the summer girl students are allowed to wear skirts but boys are not allowed to wear shorts. 'We think that this discriminates against boys."
Chris's mum Liz Whitehead, 50, said: "I am delighted that Chris is taking action on what he believes in, which the school actually encourages, so he is only doing what he is taught.
"I am really proud he is brave enough to wear a skirt to school for what he believes in and back him all the way."
Headteacher Robert Campbell said the ban on shorts was imposed following consultation with students, teachers and parents in 2009.
He said: "Our uniform policy had a significant consultation and ours is typical of most schools in Cambridgeshire and the consensus was we were going to go for that.
"Ultimately the boys can wear a skirt to school because it doesn't say they can't in the uniform policy and we would be discriminating against them if we did not allow it."

•    Magnet Boy's big attraction

A six-year-old Croatian boy astounds his family and friends with his 'magnetic' body.
Ivan Stoiljkovic is reportedly able to stick metallic objects such as spoons, mobile phones and even frying pans to his body.
And his families, who live in a village near Koprivnica, say he can carry up to 25kg of metal stuck to his torso at a time.
He demonstrated his special talent to local journalists by taking off his shirt and sticking cutlery, a frying pan and even dumbbells to his body.
And his family claim he also has the ability to heal people with his hands, alleviating his grandfather's stomach pains and taking away the pain of a neighbour who hurt his leg in a tractor accident.
Ivan's grandfather, Ivo Stoiljkovic, said when his grandson laid his hands on his stomach they became extremely hot and the pain simply went away.
Ivan is also said to be much stronger than other children his age and is able to easily carry bags of cement as heavy as 50lbs.

•    Bird's 'red light district' home

This dove seems very proud of her flash new home - inside a traffic light at a busy road junction.
The feather-brained bird built her nest in front of the red traffic light in Basildon, Essex.
The unusual 'red light' location has earned her the nickname Roxanne, after the Police song.
Most drivers passing the spot have no idea there's anything different about this particular set of lights.
Only the most eagle-eyed are able to spot the bird and her nest of twigs.
Despite the traffic, not to mention the constantly changing light, Roxanne seems very pleased with her choice of nesting site.
After all, she does having something of a bird's eye view.

•    Couples tie the knot in cemetery

Two couples in China held their weddings in a cemetery - to publicly declare they would be together until parted by death.
All four are workers at the Yong'an Cemetery in Tianjin and exchanged their vows among the grave stones.
Their wedding procession was made out of 26 cemetery carts which were specially decorated for the occasion.
Groom Wu Di married his bride Yang Xi, while his friend Wei Jian married his fiancee Liu Ling.
"We work here, and we know each other here. The cemetery witnessed our love. Only death could part us," said Wu Di.
"It's a natural choice for us, as we work here and love this place. All the ancestors lying underneath are our wedding witnesses."
During the wedding, each couple also planted saplings to wish their love and marriage would be long-lasting.
